Together, the numbers here highlight our beloved spaces and services, the breadth of materials we collect and share, and the many ways we improve the lives of the people we serve. Here are some digits that draw attention to the (seemingly) countless ways the Library makes a difference.

Visits to Moffitt Library
The ever-popular Moffitt Library, on the verge of a renovation of its lower three floors, garnered well over a million visits. On the library’s busiest day of the year, Oct. 9, 2023, it received 9,719 visits.

The Library remained committed to sharing its treasures far and wide, scanning nearly 2 million images this year — 1,661,903 in-house and 96,968 with the help of vendors.

Volumes in the Library’s collections
The Library continued to expand its trove of knowledge, drawing closer to 15 million volumes in its collections. Students and scholars made wide use of the Library’s physical materials, notching 242,217 checkouts — the most at any campus in the University of California system.

Enrollments in classes served by e-reserves
During the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters, classes enrolling more than 20,000 students across 65 departments benefited from a program that connects students with free digital versions of course materials.

The Library employed more than 600 students to help — among other important roles — catalog, preserve, digitize, and share its collections.

More than 20,000 participants engaged in the Library’s instruction offerings. To support research spanning the disciplines, the Library also provided 34,071 reference consultations, including 5,261 originating on its online 24/7 chat service.
